Heirs of Grace originated in 1999 by three women, two of which are still with the group today. The group joined the Emerald Coast Southern Gospel Music Association (ECSGMA) in 2002 and was nominated and won the New Artist of the Year Award. In both 2002 and 2003 they were nominated as Female Group of the Year. In 2007 they were nominated by the West Georgia Southern Gospel Music Convention for Trio of the Year. In January 2009 and January 2010, Heirs of Grace won the Beacon Award for Female Group of the Year. The group has several recordings which feature original songs written by members, past and present.
Kerry Nolen
Kerry Nolen, lead/soprano is one of the original members of the group. Kerry was born in Quantico, Virginia while her father was stationed there in the U.S. Marines. She spent most of her life traveling to various military bases during the time of her father's service. When she started school, her family moved to Tallahassee, Florida, which was her parents' original home. Kerry now resides in Crawfordville, Florida, with her husband Mac. They have two grown boys. Raymond, the oldest, is married to Cindy's (one of the other members of the group) daughter Stacy, and they have three precious children. Matthew, the youngest, currently serves in the United States Navy.
Kerry has been in church all her life. At a young age, she committed her life to the Lord. As far back as she can remember, she has been involved with the church in whatever capacity she was needed, including serving as the President of Women's Ministries, Sunday School Teacher, congregational song leader and soloist. Her true passion, however, is singing gospel music. She is an active member in her local church, Evangel Assembly of God, and participates in the choir.
Kerry gives God the glory for all the blessings in her life and the opportunities he has sent her way. It is her desire to use her talent to reach those who have never accepted Christ as their Savior. It is further her prayer that throughthe words sung, people will be inspired, encouraged, strengthened and uplifted.
Cindy O'Steen
Cindy is also one of the original members of the group and sings second soprano, lead and tenor.
Cindy was born in DeFuniak Springs, Florida and lived a short time in Westville, Florida before moving to Tallahassee, Florida with her family. God placed a love for singing in her heart at an early age. Cindy remembers singing at the age of four in the church her father pastored while in Westville. She would stand on the altar so the congregation would have a better view of her. That love for singing is still in her heart today.
Cindy now resides in Monticello, Florida with her husband, Scott. They have two daughters. Stacy is the oldest and is married to Kerry and Mac's son Raymond. Katie is the youngest and has a precious 3 year old daughter named Emily. Together with Kerry and Mac, they have three beautiful grandchildren. Chelsy, Raymond IV and James Scott. They bring alot of joy to their lives.
Cindy feels very blessed to be part of a ministry that longs to serve the Lord using the gifts He has given them and wants God to be glorified in that calling and point the way to Jesus Christ.
Jennifer Strickland
Jennifer Strickland was born and raised in Panama City Florida where she still resides today. Her passion has always been Jesus and music. At the age of seven, she gave her heart to Jesus and has been singing to Him ever since. Throughout her school years, Jennifer sang in choir and played the clarinet in band. During her senior year in High School, God spoke to her and said she would write songs from His heart to minister to His people. Almost immediately she began writing songs and playing the piano.
Jennifer is now fulfilling what God has for this season in her life. She released her debut CD entitled, “Cover Me” in December of 2005. It contains 11 original songs of heartfelt worship. Many listeners have been encouraged and given hope by embracing the message of these songs. In 2006, after competing in a talent search and placing third, Jennifer joined the Emerald Coast Southern Gospel Music Association. She has since been nominated for ECSGMA New Artist of the Year, Female Vocalist, and is the recipient of both the 2009 and 2010 Song Writer of the Year award. Through this organization, she has ministered on the same stage with groups such as Brian Free and Assurance, The Talley Trio, and The Hoppers.
In 2007, Jennifer began working on her latest CD entitled, “I Am Blessed.” Under the umbrella of Paradigm Music Group, she joined Compass Records and this newest project was produced by Calvin Gann. It includes 10 original songs and has proven to be another tool of ministry and encouragement. In January 2008 Jennifer released her first single to radio, “There Is A Miracle For You.” It entered the Christian Voice Charts at 72 and climbed to 48. Her second release to radio called “Picture Me” reached 37 for March 2009.
Jennifer has participated in the SGMA’s Music Fan Fair in Chattanooga Tennessee and Bill Bailey’s “Biggest All Night Gospel Sing” in Bonifay Florida. God has opened many doors of ministry opportunity in the Florida, Alabama, and Georgia area. In September 2008, she sang at the National Quartet Convention in Louisville Kentucky. It was an exciting week to meet new people and expand her ministry! Jennifer says, “Wherever God leads, I will go.” And she has done just that. In October 2008, she stepped outside the realm of solo ministry and joined Emerald City Quartet based out of Panama City Florida. After two years of singing in a quartet style group, God has now opened the door for her to join Heirs of Grace, a female trio from the Tallahassee FL area. Heirs of Grace will soon release their latest CD in which Jennifer is honored to have written five of the songs on it.
Jennifer has been married for 15 years to Michael, her biggest support and encourager. He travels with Heirs of Grace as their booking agent, sound tech, and bus driver. Together, they desire to accomplish the call God has placed upon both of their lives. Jennifer also works at St. Andrew Baptist Church in Panama City Florida as the Senior Pastor’s ministry assistant. So you can see, ministry is her life.
Jennifer’s destiny and purpose is to spread the Word of God through song. Her desire is to be faithful in all that He has called her to do. She is available to minister anytime and anywhere. She believes God is her Provider and He will accomplish all that He desires. She is just so blessed and thankful to be a small part of His great big plan!
